Bunge-Trantenroth stain

A histological stain for differentiating pathogenic Mycobacterium spp (“acid-fast” bacilli) from the (essentially) nonpathogenetic Mycobacterium smegmatis. The most widely used method for identifying acid-fast bacilli is the Ziehl-Neelsen stain. 

This term got 24 hits on 02.02.2012, all in secondary and non-English language literature. It is not used in the working medical parlance and should be retired.
