NEPHROLOGY

The gene on chromosome 5p13.3 that encodes natriuretic peptide receptor 3 (OMIM: 108962, UniProtKB: P17342), a receptor for natriuretic peptide hormones, which binds with similar affinities, atrial natriuretic peptide NPPA/ANP, brain natriuretic peptide NPPB/BNP, and C-type natriuretic peptide NPPC/CNP. NPR3 may act as a clearance receptor for NPPA, NPPB and NPPC, regulating their local concentrations and effects. It appears to regulate diuresis, blood pressure and skeletal development. It lacks guanylate cyclase activity.
