hit and run crime scene

PUBLIC SAFETY

Definition adjective A term* referring to an RTA/MVA in which the driver–typically under the influence of alcohol or psychoactive drugs at the time of the accident–strikes a person–pedestrian, bicyclist or other vehicle, and leaves the scene, often without informing authorities or emergency services.

*Hit and run also has nominative status. Abandoning the scene is a criminal act that implies a lack of concern for the victim’s safety and welfare and thus carries severe penalties.
