A comestible that has topped various lists of worst foods. It consists of deep fried fat-laden pig skin smothered in salt, which can clog coronary arteries and damage teeth.

Hard facts notwithstanding, some enterprises are hawking pork rinds (PRs) as a healthy snack: A 28 g serving contains nine times the protein and less fat than a serving of potato chips; 43% of PR fat is unsaturated, of which most is oleic acid–a fat found in olive oil…which means that 57% of PR fat is saturated. Saturated fat raises the LDL-cholesterol, which in turn increases the risk of heart disease.
