chicken nugget

Definition A highly processed food distantly derived from chicken, which has become a major component of the American diet. Chicken nuggets are mostly fat, and thus best regarded as a misnomer.

Comment A histopathological study by RD DeShazo, et al at U Mississippi Medical Center of nuggets from 2 different national fast food chains found that fat was the major component; other tissues found included epithelium, bone, nerve, and connective tissue. Striated muscle (meat) was a minor component.
