A non-lethal hand grenade loaded with ghost peppers has been trialled by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Tezpur in northeastern Assam state, India. Such a grenade would force criminals out of their hideouts as the smell is so pungent that it would literally choke them, per RB Srivastava, a senior scientist and director of the DRDO.
