acai berryJoe Segen2016-12-26T11:12:11+00:00
Definition The fruit of the açaí palm which is native to South America and rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.
The acai (Euterpe oleracea) berry has been billed as a superfood, given the high content of carbohydrates, protein, total fat and fibre. Most of the fat is oleic acid, followed by palmitic and linoleic acids and beta-sitosterol–which comprises the bulk of the berry’s sterols. There have been no studies supporting the wild-eyed claims of health benefits of acai consumption, which include reversing diabetes and other chronic illnesses and enlarging one’s penis.
