A nonsaccharolytic, oxidase- and catalase-positive, gram-negative rod which is unable to grow on MacConkey agar. W virosa is an environmental bacterium that is not part of normal human flora, but may cause asymptomatic bacteraemia and, in immunocompromised hosts, pneumonia
