mouse footpad test
Definition The mouse footpad test is a a method for testing the efficacy of antileprosy drugs, which is based on the observation that Mycobacterium lepra grows well in the footpad of mice.
Comment It should come as no surprise that the test is tedious, time consuming (it takes months) and expensive. An alternative–the radiorespirometric Buddemeyer assay with adenosine triphosphate (ATP) assay–is more sensitive and specific.
