BIG PHARMA

A term of art for the advertising of a product–e.g., a drug or device that has not yet come to market, which typically consist of small, cryptic, challenging (“teasing”) adverts preceding a larger, full-blown campaign for a product launch.

Comment The image is that of Apple’s Mac Pro, which was completely redesigned in 2013. In the typical Apple fashion, few details were released before it launched, thereby teasing the panting public. For therapeutics, the company marketing the product must choose between so-called institutional  teaser advertising and coming soon teaser advertising.
