A “special interest” group, which is often based in Washington, DC, that distributes literature, lobbies for, and makes financial contributions to politicians to influence policy and decisions made in US Congress and Senate

Examples AMA’s PAC–AMPAC (image) lobbies, among other things, for equitable changes in (medical) malpractice law. The PAC for the National Rifle Association–the firearms hobbyists’ lobbyists lobby against gun control–i.e., to protect the American right to bear arms…and to arm bears.
