electronic health record

A primarily British term for the computerised record of a person’s health “transactions”, collated from summaries of individual electronic patient records and other relevant data.

The goal, which has thus far proven elusive, is that every person in the UK will have a lifelong data-protected EHR from cradle to grave, which will migrate with them even if they change doctors or move around the country. EHRs will one day replace paper patient records…eventually…but don’t hold your breath waiting…

Synonyms EHR, electronic medical record, electronic patient record, EMR, EPR
