A popular synonym for granzyme A, a trypsin-like serine protease encoded by GZMA produced by cytotoxic T and NK cells, which is required for target cell lysis in cell-mediated immune responses.

The name derives from the similarities of the cDNA–complementary DNA nucleotide sequence to that of coagulation factor IX–Christmas factor.
