Definition A person who actively prepares for disruptions of biblical magnitude in the sociopolitical order of the world.

Typically, survivalists acquire skills in emergency medical care and self-defence, stockpile food and water, prepare for self-sufficiency (in the woods, mountains, post-apocalyptic cities, etc), and build camps, underground shelters or fortify their homes to help them survive the anticipated disaster.

Survivalists include the nutters who sell off their possessions, herd their people together and go up in the hills of Montana every time there is a prediction or hint of “the big one”–e.g., the Y2K non-event, only to sheepishly trickle down long after normal people concluded that this, too, was a non-event.
