Silver AlertJoe Segen2016-12-19T03:54:28+00:00
Definition A missing persons notification and tracking system for wandering older elders, especially those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, which is slowly being implemented in the US. Silver Alerts (SA) use media outlets–e.g., commercial radio and television stations, and cable TV–to disseminate information about missing persons.
The SA system–named for seniors who have silver/grey hair, if they have hair at all–is designed to provide early warning that an elder with dementia has gone missing–half of those not found within 24 hours suffer serious injury or death and provide a means–a radio bracelet–of locating that person.
