old people smell

An allegedly distinct older elder odour which, while traditionally viewed as unpleasant, may be more related to negative perceptions of old age, rather than to the odour itself.

The smell is in fact, less intense and unpleasant than the odour of younger individual with middle age males topping the “stink-o-meter”. It has been characterised as complex, subtly sweet, with a soupçon of decay and mortality–like a fine aged wine, per Johan Lundström, researcher at the Monell Chemical Senses Center in Philadelphia.

Synonyms Old people smell, old person odor, old person odour
