ease of association
Definition A legal doctrine that weighs the probability that one event can trigger or is causally associated with another.
Comment In Smith v Louisiana Health & Human Resources Administration 637 S 2d 1177–La Ct App, 18/5/94, Smith, a mentally confused patient, found his way into the hospital’s ambulance, drove it shortly and was killed. The court decided for the plaintiff’s family, as Smith, whilst in the hospital, engaged in the type of conduct that was easily associated with his borrowing the vehicle and having a fatal accident.
