A standardised ballistics testing medium which has a density and tensile characteristics similar to swine and human muscle and soft tissue, into which weapons are discharged to assess the force, penetrability and energy transfer from projectiles (bullets).
Composition 20% gelatin; soft soap made from tallow, palm seed, coconut grease.
The behaviour, dynamics, and retardation of bullets in the body can be simulated by firing them into ballistic gel. Trajectories can be evaluated with flash x-ray technique.
