Definition A clinical trial that compared a composite end point (death, acute MI, and refractory ischaemia at 48 hours) in patients with unstable angina–who were already receiving aspirin, and managed with either heparin–H or tirofiban–T–a nonpeptide inhibitor of platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptor

Conclusion Tirofibran reduced mortality, but not acute MIsor refractory ischaemia.

Logistics Double-blind; 3232 patients were enrolled within 24 hours of the “qualifying” episode of pain–chest pain at rest or accelerating chest, and randomly assigned to receive either H or T
