EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE

Qualitative research refers to data-gathering techniques which focus on the significance of observations made in a study rather than the raw numbers themselves.

Note: (1) When referring to variables, “qualitative” is synonymous with categorical or nominal.(2) When referring to types of research, “qualitative” refers to studies of subjects that are hard to quantify, such as art history. Qualitative research tends to be a waste paper basket category for most nonquantitative research.
