lurking variableJoe Segen2016-12-13T06:09:12+00:00
Definition A variable in a population or data set that correlates with independent and dependent variables in a statistical model, which may be undetected or unsuspected and alter interpretation of causal relationships.
Some authors regard lurking variables as a type of confounding variable.
Lurking variables must be accounted for in statistical experiments so they don’t generate non-meaningful results.
