EVIDENCE-BASED MEDICINE, RESEARCH

A popular term for a type of publication bias in which either investigators fail to report their results, or the journals have no interest in publishing results from a study which shows a(n uninteresting) negative trend.

The file drawer problemmakes meta-analyses difficult to interpret as such analyses are typically skewed toward reports that indicate trends, but not to those which do not; the term refers to a file drawer in which similar types of information are not filed, once a file folder is full, unless the information is ‘earth-shattering’
