CLINICAL DECISION-MAKING

An event or point in a decision tree where a degree of uncertainty exists and represents at least two possible outcomes. A chance node is an initial event in a clinical algorithm at which a particular diagnostic or therapeutic intervention is performed.

Based on the results–e.g., response, non-response, further procedures or interventions may be planned at each subsequent decision node  Small circles in a decision tree show chance nodes (see image).
