Definition A formal statement made by the World Medical Association in 1983 regarding terminal illness, which permits the maintenance of a cadaver by artificial means to optimise organs for transplantation.

Comment The Declaration of Venice condones passive euthanasia, but does not distinguish between withholding treatment and withholding nutriment.
