Definition Any clause attached to a law in a particular jurisdiction in the USA which permits pharmacists, physicians, and other health care providers to abstain from providing certain medical services for reasons of religion or conscience (personal, ethical, moral grounds).

Examples of conscience issues Abortions, sterilisation, contraception, stem cell use, DNR orders.
