Definition A flowering plant of the carrot family, which is one of 50 fundamental herbs used in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM).

Uses in TCM Management of stroke and anginal pain; vasodilation

Animal studies Rodent data show low toxicity, improved vascular flow and reduced response to noradrenaline, TNF-alpha, nitric oxide in a rat model of circulatory shock
