apricot kernels = Laetrile = quack cancer therapy = used by Steve McQueen

Definition Apricot kernels are a source of amygdalin (Laetrile*) which has long been touted as a cure for cancer. It is not. Apricot and peach kernels/seeds are highly toxic due to their content of amygdalin and prunasin, cyanogenic glycosides that convert to hydrogen cyanide (HCN, aka, prussic acid). 50 kernels/seeds are fatal in adults, 10 are fatal in children.

None less than Steve McQueen, the King of Cool, went to Mexico to be treated with quack alternative therapies including Laetrile® when his mesothelioma reached an advanced stage. He died November 7, 1980, shortly after surgery for removing foci of metastasis. Here’s the King himself in his Jaguar XK-SS.
