A term of art referring to the discrepancy between a person’s actual and perceived food/caloric intake

A wide eye-mouth gap is typical of those with eating disorders and is not thought to represent conscious deception by the individual. An eye-mouth gap may result in the misdiagnosis of diet-resistant obesity, a dilemma which can be resolved with the double-labelled water method, see there.*
