biliopancreatic diversion

A so-called malabsorptive operation which restricts both the food intake–by reducing the stomach’s volume, and the amount of calories and nutrients the body absorbs-by bypassing most of the small intestine—where calories are absorbed, and anastomosing the upper small intestine to the lower small intestine near the colon—where calorie absorption is minimal.

Biliopancreatic diversion is a high-risk procedure, which results in long-term health problems due to reduced absorption of food and nutrients.
