adipostat
BARIATRIC MEDICINE, ENDOCRINOLOGY
A hypothetical mechanism and set-point region that may reside in the ventromedial, lateral, and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus and possibly elsewhere, which regulates body fat within a narrow range based on intake and energy expenditure. It appears (assuming this simplistic entity actually exists) to maintain the metabolic status quo, and modify behaviours traditionally perceived as voluntary–e.g., eating and physical activity, as well as metabolic activity to compensate for changes in diet.
The adipostat is the feedback loop from adiposity to satiety which regulates ketoplastic carbon.
Synonym Fat “themostat”
