AIDS

A clinical test which had dubious value in identifying male homosexuals who were thought to have a greater risk of contracting HIV, based on the observation that many early AIDS patients had Freddie Mercury* type moustaches.

*(nee Farrokh Bulsara, 1946-1991) lead vocalist of the British rock band Queen, who was one of the first high-profile gay/bisexual entertainers to acknowledge they had AIDS). There are no data to support the validity of this “test” and it is thus of merely historic interest.

Synonyms Moustache test, mustache test, ‘tache test
