Definition A programme kickstarted by none less than President George W Bush, which has supplied 5 million AIDS patients in developing countries with anti-retroviral drugs, protected 1 million infants from maternally transmitted HIV and tested 50 million individuals for HIV.
Death rates for HIV disease fell in PEPFAR supported countries from 9/1000 adults (1998) to 4/1000 adults (2008)
