A term coined by Dr Robert Sataloff in 2004, chairman of ENT at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia for the array of techniques used to repair a damaged or ageing* voice.

*With age, vocal cords become thinner and the space between them widens

Procedures include injection of fillers–e.g., the patient’s own fat or less commonly, collagen, which are temporary measures, inserts–e.g., silicon or Gore-Tex, which are permanent and, as a last resort, surgery to tighten and approximate the vocal cords.
