AESTHETIC MEDICINE, COSMETIC SURGERY
adjective Referring to or having a nice butt, or for the prudish, aesthetic buttocks
The Callipygian Venus (Venus Callipyge) is a marble statue that surfaced in the 1500s. Its sculptor is unknown, but believed to have copied the work in the 1st century BC from an earlier Greek bronze. While popular myth has it being discovered in the ruins of Emperor Nero’s Domus Aurea, historians believe that unlikely, as the debris at the ruins had no fragments of marble–nor shards of violin wood–and thus its exact provenance is lost to the sands of time. It is now displayed at the Museo Nationale in Naples.
