metoidioplasty

SEXOLOGY, UROLOGY

A surgical alternative to phalloplasty for trans gender men, usually performed after testosterone therapy, which enlarges the clitoris and its extended erectile tissue–the so-called clitoral legs. The clitoris is freed from its normal position and moved forward to approximate the location of a penis

Pros Shorter procedure, less expensive, fewer complications (compared to phalloplasty); retained genital orgasm

Cons The resulting penis is too small for penetrative sex; the erection isn’t as hard as that of a proper penis or a phalloplastic penis

Synonyms Meta, metaoidioplasty, meto
