Shipman–Harold

FORENSIC PSYCHIATRY

Definition A British general (medical) practitioner (14 January 1946 – 13 January 2004) who was one of the most prolific serial killers in history.

Whilst he was convicted of only killing 15–mostly women, often by lethal injection of heroin, 218 deaths have been positively linked to him; many left him money in their wills…forged with his typewriter.

Ten days after his conviction, the UK’s General Medical Council struck him off the GP Register…better late than never? He hung himself in his prison cell using bed sheets…apparently to ensure that his wife would get his NHS pension. A memorial garden for Shipman’s victims, The Garden of Tranquility, opened in Hyde Park London in the summer of 2005.

Synonym Dr Death
