widowmaker lesion

A popular term for severe stenosis of the left anterior descending—LAD coronary artery, so named as its acute occlusion is classically associated with sudden death in (married) middle-aged men.

Obviously the term is a misnomer in that the LAD can be blocked in women and at any age, and no coronary artery is impervious to coronary arterial blockage by an errant plaque.

Synonym Widowmaker heart attack
