A self-explanatory term for the bulge on a pregnant woman’s anterior abdominal wall which corresponds to a fetus.
The term baby bump is thought to be of British origin and first appeared about 2004. Per Celebrity Baby Blog publisher Danielle Friedland, who said that because “…there’s no other colloquial term to uniquely describe the outward physical anatomy of the pregnant womb, “bump” has become the word everyone uses.” It has since gone viral with 9.690,000 hits as of 02/02/2013.
