Andromeda virus 


A hypothetical, highly-virulent virus that would be spread by aerosol, and result in a “species-threatening event”–i.e., one capable of decimating the human population.

The virus is named after the novel Andromeda Strain by Michael Crighton, MD; there is no real Andromeda strain. 

In Greek mythology, the Ethiopian princess Andromeda was chained to a cliff as a sacrifice to a sea monster, until rescued by Perseus, who married her
