A popular term for the pain hypersensitivity in women with pelvic inflammatory disease–PID. Internal pelvic examination by a gynaecologist evokes pain of such intensity that the patient seems to leap out of the examination stirrups, and reach “for the chandelier”.
Other findings in PID include purulent discharge from the cervix, tubo-ovarian abscess, pyosalpinx, hydrosalpinx, free pelvic fluid on ultrasound.
Synonyms Cervical excitation, cervical motion tenderness
