brain heart coupling
NEUROLOGY, MEDIA MEDICINE
A made-up medical term used on House, MD, season 5, episode 8, in which Dr House–played by Hugh Laurie, asserted that severe emotional distress led to asymmetrical functioning of the mid-brain.
Interruption in the brain-heart coupling could cause the pulmonary oedema and House ordered Thirteen—played by Olivia Wilde—to load the patient up with diazepam.
Such a coupling is not as straightforward as the Hollywood would have us believe; many of the 132 hits on 30.01.2012 are related to the episode of House. Without objective data and a better definition, the term is best not used.
