TROPICAL MEDICINE

Definition A bednet is a tightly woven “mosquito” net used to shroud a bed or crib and create a physical barrier that prevents flying insects–especially mosquitos, from biting the person sleeping inside the barrier.

Between 2001 and 2010, insecticide-treated bednets (and household spraying) near areas with high rates of malaria, were credited with preventing deaths of 830,000 children in 43 countries.
