A neuropsychiatric condition seen in polar* explorers, which is characterised by cognitive defects, mood disturbances, forgetfulness, and occasionally, a fugue state, the so-called Antarctic stare.

*Antarctic, Arctic

Aetiology Reduced T3 (triiodothyronine). 

Synonyms Antarctic blues, Antarctic T3 syndrome, polar blues, polar T3 disorder
