Definition A broad-spectrum organochlorine insecticide and acaricide formerly used on crops, cotton, ornamental shrubs, trees, and vines.

Adverse effects Hyperactivity, convulsions, incoordination, dyspnoea, nausea and vomiting, diarrhoea, unconsciousness

Chemistry Endosulfan is a hexachlorocyclopentadiene derivative chemically related to aldrin, chlordane, and heptachlor. 

Comment Endosulfan is being phased out of agriculture and commercial applications, given its neurotoxicity, bioaccumulation, and activity as an endocrine disruptor, a process that should be completed by 2017.
