ETHICS, NUCLEAR MEDICINE
A series of experiments carried out in the 1940s, in which 18 hospitalised civilian patients in the US were injected with plutonium to learn more about plutonium’s effects on the body.
Compensation for the victims and families was recommended by a government panel; direct physical harm was unproven; other radioactivity experiments were carried out on the US government’s watch until the 1970s.
God bless America.
