Definition A group of academicians, civil servants, business leaders which first met in 1972 and proposed limits to population growth.

Comment The Club of Rome hypothesis, based on computer simulations of human activities, holds that limits to population growth on the planet would be breached within a century; at that point, there would be an uncontrollable decline in the population and industrial capacity.
