Elephant foot appearance is a descriptive term referring to the appearance of the invasive front of verrucous carcinoma, a low-grade (minimally aggressive) squamous cell carcinoma, which affects mucocutaneous tissues, most commonly
of the oral cavity and vulva. The term elephant foot refers to its wide and flat spread with minimal focal digit-like extensions which, to the imaginative eye, has been likened to a pachyderm’s foot.
