SURGERY

The gooey and yucky bits and bobs excised from a patient during surgery that can’t or shouldn’t be sewn or stapled back, as well as disposables and various materials consumed during the procedure.

Surgical waste includes tissue (fat, excess skin, cancer, bone fragments, etc), gloves, masks, gowns, infusion bags, gauze, synthetic textiles, suture material, etc, etc, which are binned in hazardous waste receptacles at the end of the procedure. The macabre may turn their leftovers into necklaces, bracelets and other goofy souvenirs.

Synonyms Operating room waste, operating theatre waste
