SURGICAL ONCOLOGY

Definition A popular term for the excision of multiple metastases from an organ or body cavity, e.g., colorectal carcinoma metastases in the liver.

Comment Many authors believe resection of up to 4 metastases, ideally < 5 cm in diameter, is reasonable and improves the prognosis of metastatic cancers.
