slapped cheek rash

PAEDIATRICS

Definition A circumscribed, intense facial erythema of sudden onset, which has been fancifully likened to the transient erythema seen post cheeky child cheek slappery. The facial rash is followed by an maculopapular rash of the entire body, characteristic of the so-called fifth disease (erythema infectiosum), caused by parvovirus B19.
